Beardmore chef shows children the healthy way to cook
A group of children from Goldenhill Primary School visited The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre to learn about healthy cooking.
The P7 pupils were given a tour of the hotel before seeing what goes on in the restaurant kitchen. Executive Chef Iain Ramsay told the boys and girls why they should eat fruit and vegetables and drink milk every day. He also showed them how to make fruit kebabs and healthy chocolate cake.
The visit was arranged as part of the school’s Enterprise project, As Good As Gold, for which they are writing and publishing their own recipe book.
Beardmore Business Development Director Bronagh Bell said: “Our financial controller, Loraine Lester, is involved in the Goldenhill Primary project on a personal level as her children both attend the school.
“As the only NHS-owned hotel in the country we like to set a positive example when it comes to healthy eating, so we were delighted to invite the children along to see our kitchens and meet the chef.
“We really enjoyed their visit and hope they did too. We would also like to wish them every success with their recipe book.”
Class teacher Claire Tripp said: “We hope the book project will enhance motivation and improve attainment in all our pupils. The main focus is health education, information technology and strengthening our links with the local community.
“There will have recipes from each class and there will even be a teachers’ page and a cheats’ section.”
