The Beardmore Hotel & Conference Centre was delighted to win at the Scottish Hotel Awards 2012:
Beardmore showcases UK first in clinical training
Today (Friday 11 March 2011), the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre hosts the inaugural Scottish event of the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO).
As part of this prestigious conference, a team from the NHS National Waiting Times Centre, which incorporates The Golden Jubilee National Hospital and The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre, will showcase a state of the art audio visual system.
A first for the UK, this system provides live streaming direct to the Beardmore’s auditorium from the hospital’s theatres as well as its’ cardiac catheterisation laboratories – allowing for medical teaching, research and discussion in live time.
Mitchell Lindsay, Consultant Cardiologist at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital will be performing a live coronary angiogram to the audience. He said: “We are the only site in the UK to have the unique ability to show live operations or procedures to an audience of approximately 170 people at a time.
“Learning new medical techniques and innovations ensure clinicians provide the best possible patient care. Everyone who works at the Golden Jubilee wants to learn more and be at the forefront of new technology and research. This system allows us to show our medical colleagues any procedure we are undertaking and discuss cases on a step by step basis.”
Business Development Director for the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre, Bronagh Bell, added: “The beauty of this system is that there is both a visual and a two way audio link. This means that as part of a conference, the people in the operating theatre can answer any questions that the delegates have in real time.
“This investment in technology means that The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre is leading the way in the provision of medical conferences. No site in the UK has the ability to provide this unique service and we look forward to building on our links with the Golden Jubilee National Hospital to be a conduit in the education of Scottish medical professionals for years to come.”
The event will also introduce the Beardmore Centre for Health Science – a new world class centre to cultivate clinical excellence, research and learning.
Due to open later in 2011, the Centre will provide an exceptional focal point for training and research activity with:
• consulting rooms specifically designed for patients who choose to participate in research studies; and
• training rooms equipped with state of the art conference technology and fibre optic audio visual links from our catheterisation laboratories (cath labs) and theatres, providing the opportunity for enhanced surgical skills training.
The Centre will complement the existing services on site by providing a unique combination of health care training facilities, with a hospital and hotel – resulting in an ideal venue for showcasing equipment associated with all aspects of patient care.
