The Beardmore Hotel & Conference Centre was delighted to win at the Scottish Hotel Awards 2012:
Hotel marks climate week with green package
The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre has shown its commitment to providing environmentally friendly services by launching a ‘green conference package’ during Climate Week.
The four-star hotel – that was awarded gold standard following an inspection by the Green Tourism Business Scheme – has introduced the eco-friendly package to encourage conference organisers to hold sustainable events.
Bronagh Bell, Business Development Director at the Beardmore, said: “We are committed to helping to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment.
“Our ‘green package’ is just one of the many ideas we have come up with to help the environment and to encourage our guests and conference delegates to reduce, reuse and recycle.”
The Beardmore has also set up an active ‘green’ team with representation from every department. The team regularly meets to discuss methods of improving its green credentials.
Eileen Newman, General Manager of the Beardmore, added: “Many of our most popular and fun ideas have come from the staff such as growing our own herbs to use in the Beardmore kitchen and providing complimentary bicycles for guests to borrow during their stay.
“As well as doing all the fundamental good sustainable practices such as recycling, watching energy consumption and encouraging guests to re-use linen and towels, we have also come up with some innovative schemes. This included our Green Conference Package which encourages conference organisers to have a sustainable event and for every one booked we will make a contribution to our local wildlife centre.
“The green package encourages them to use less paper and use public transport to get here but also to try out some of our clever technology like the Smart Board, the Apple iMacs and the video conferencing equipment.”
