The Beardmore Hotel & Conference Centre was delighted to win at the Scottish Hotel Awards 2012:

Royal official opening for West of Scotland Heart and Lung Centre

Today (Thursday 3 July 2008), Her Majesty The Queen accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will officially open the West of Scotland Heart and Lung Centre at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, as part of NHSScotland’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

The new Heart and Lung Centre brings a wide range of specialist expertise together in a dedicated facility designed to meet the needs of patients from across the West of Scotland.

Before the official plaque unveiling, the Royal Party will go on a tour of the Hospital and view the state of the art facilities, as well as meeting a range of frontline staff, patients and volunteers. This will include:

•    The team involved in the heart and lung migration project who helped move services from across Glasgow and Lanarkshire to join the existing site at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital.
•    Thomas Mitchell from Paisley who is the longest surviving Scottish heart transplant patient.
•    John Robinson from Hamilton who had a quadruple heart bypass in January 2006 at the same time as the heart and lung project business case was approved by the Scottish Government. He returned in June 2006 to help kick off the building work for the new centre.
•    Members of the patient focus group who helped shape the services currently available at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital.
•    Lily Hendry who continues to work as a nurse as she approaches her 70th birthday.

Jill Young, Chief Executive of the NHS National Waiting Times Centre – the NHS Special Board that runs the Golden Jubilee National Hospital and the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre - commented: “The visit of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh illustrates the importance of the Golden Jubilee National Hospital within the NHS in Scotland.

“We have helped thousands of patients across Scotland, delivering surgery such as hip and knee replacements and cataracts, as well as diagnostic examinations such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

“Now we are also home to the West of Scotland Heart and Lung Centre, meaning that anyone who needs a bypass, heart valve, or complex lung surgery will be treated here.  In addition, we have a number of national services based here such as the heart transplant unit.

“We are honoured that Her Majesty is officially opening this new part of our hospital, which will ensure that patients have access to a range of highly trained staff and a host of support services to ensure they continue to receive the best possible quality of care.”
