Scottish chef cleans up at culinary challenge

Culinary crackerjack, Iain MacFadyen scooped a string of awards at the final of a prestigious cooking competition.

The chef was representing the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre, which was the only Scottish venue in the finals of the Chefs’ Challenge competition on Saturday 25 April.

The event was organised by Conference Centres of Excellence – a select group of specialist conference venues – and involved finalists cooking a three-course meal against the clock.

Iain, who is a Sous Chef at the Dalmuir hotel, won both the Best Starter Award and the Best Hygiene Award.

He said: “I was delighted to have reached the finals so winning two awards was the icing on the cake.

“I had practised my dishes for several weeks before the competition, but when I noticed the high standard of the dishes the other finalists were producing I realised how tough a competition it would be.

“I couldn’t believe it when it was announced I had won the Best Starter and Best Hygiene Award. I am still on cloud nine and can’t wait to enter again next year. It has given me a huge confidence boost and I will be going for gold the next time.”

Iain Ramsay, Executive Chef at the Beardmore said: “Iain has shown great talent since he started working in our team and we are all proud of his achievements.

“The standard at the Chefs’ Challenge was exceptionally high so to leave with two awards is an incredible achievement.”
