Silver success for going green!

The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre has received the Green Tourism Silver award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

The Clydebank hotel received the award after introducing a number of environmentally friendly measures, such as placing bird boxes around the hotel, introducing guest recycling facilities and increasing the education to staff through induction programmes.

Housekeeping Duty Manager Craig Davidson led the work behind the hotel’s recent achievement

He said: “At the Beardmore we are totally committed to being customer friendly, but nowadays it is important to be environmentally friendly too.

"A lot of people are eco-friendly these days and will only stay in a hotel where these issues are taken seriously, so we're trying to reduce energy costs and go greener.

“I am delighted we now have the Silver Award as it means we are continuing to improve on our measures to be more environmentally friendly.

“There are different measures to cover, but it's basically about getting our energy usage to a consistent level and finding new ways to reduce our impact on the environment.”

The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre's green policy also includes recycling paper, oil and cans, using products made from recycled materials, and encouraging guests to re-use towels and bed linen.

Eileen Newman, General Manager of the Beardmore, added: “We are delighted to be presented with the Silver award for our attitude towards green tourism.

“Our achievement shows that we are at the forefront of responding to the very real concerns our guests and conference delegates have over environmental issues.

“We are now going for the Gold, which is the top award for excellence in this area.”
