String of successes for top chefs
Award-winning chefs at the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre are not only impressing diners with their gastronomic delights, their talents have caught the attention of their competitors.
While Iain Ramsay, Executive Chef, was nominated by his peers to join a panel of expert judges at a renowned hospitality event, his colleague, and Sous Chef, Iain MacFadyen has made it to the final of a prestigious culinary competition.
The Chefs’ Challenge takes place in Warwickshire on Saturday 25 April and Iain McFadyen is hoping his delicious dishes will have the edge over the other finalists.
He said: “The final involves cooking a three-course meal against the clock so there is a lot of pressure and not a lot of time to prepare. I have been practising my dishes ahead of the competition and am hoping that the judges will enjoy tasting them.”
The challenging event is run by Conference Centres of Excellence (CCE) – a special consortium of top quality training and conference centres that the Beardmore belongs to – and the winner will be announced the same day as the ‘cook-off’.
Iain said: “I am delighted to have reached this point in the competition. There are only two CCE venues in Scotland, so it is a great achievement to have reached the finals.”
And Iain has enjoyed having Executive Chef, Iain Ramsay, on hand to try his prepared dishes following his recent stint as a judge at ScotHot 2009.
Iain Ramsay was among the youngest on the judging panel at the recent ScotHot event and also welcomed one of the competing teams to gain experience in the kitchens of the Beardmore.
He said: “I was honoured to be recognised by my peers and given the opportunity to assess competitors at ScotHot.
“We also enjoyed having the group from the Culinary Association of India spend three nights in our kitchens. They travelled from Bedford and spent time watching our team and cooking their own dishes. It was a great experience for all involved and something that we would love to repeat in the future.
“It has been an extremely exciting and successful year so far for our team. I am confident that with the great team we have there will be plenty of successes in future.”
